MakerSpaces at the Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library (CHPL) have been a signature capital investment made by The Library Foundation for more than a decade. The first CHPL MakerSpace was established in 2015 at the Main Library and remains the most popular location, largely due to the variety and quality of equipment available. Since then, an additional five branches across the system have established MakerSpaces: Forest Park, Madisonville, Reading, St. Bernard, and Loveland.
Through the Library’s Facility Master Plan engagement process, our community has increasingly expressed a desire for additional spaces that support hands-on, experiential learning, as well as more equitable access to the technology provided by MakerSpaces.
With funding from The Library Foundation, CHPL will be supporting and expanding its MakerSpace offerings. As technology continues to rapidly advance, Foundation funding will also be used to update and enhance equipment and features at current and future MakerSpaces to further meet the needs of our community.
In 2024, CHPL MakerSpaces hosted 23,409 equipment sessions across six branch locations.
